How to get AdSense approval - Google AdSense criteria

Google's AdSense service is perfect to earn some additional money from a medium-sized website, but it's not without its disadvantages.

You must not only have a sufficient amount of traffic to make any money, but you must also meet all google adsense eligibility criteria.

Google adsense requirements for website is prime question before applying to it. Google only has a few specific, authentic AdSense qualifying requirements.

I'll mention them here, but I'm more concerned about the "unofficial" eligibility criteria, which don't technically reject you from the programs but do allow you to earn from it.

Let's start with the formal criteria. These can be found in Google's help centre here, although some of the information will be scattered across different pages and may be difficult to locate.

 1. You must be at least 18 years old.

This is a really straightforward one. To be eligible to activate AdSense, you must be over the age of 18 according to Google's terms and conditions, which almost no one has ever read in the world's history.

I'm not going to write much more about this because it won't be an issue for the vast majority of you reading this. Simply become mature!

 2. You Must Have Ownership and Control Over Your Website

In general, you must have some level of control over your website's content. You'll be in violation of Google's terms of service and likely copyright violations if you publish content that isn't yours.

There are a couple of exceptions to this rule. For example, you can still monetize content that you have marketing rights to republish from other sources if you're a website.

When it comes to "controlling" your site, it essentially means having access to the source code. Isn't it true that AdSense won't work if you can't upload the ad code to your site?

There are various exceptions to this as well. Sites like HubPages, for example, allow users who write for the site to add their own coding.

It displays ads in a rotational fashion on that person's work, rotating between their own and the author's.

You may, on the other hand, sign up for AdSense for YouTube and monetize a YouTube account without ever having to work with code because it's already there.

 3. Your website's content must be unique and interesting.

This one, along with the next one, is contained under a sub-page titled "Make Sure Your Site's Pages Are AdSense Ready."

It's essentially another rule about how your site must have monetizable content. If Google finds that your site is full of thin pages, copied or scraped content, illogical content, or content that delivers no value to a reader, they will most likely reject your application.

To be honest, this is really basic SEO tip. You're probably alright as long as you're writing your own content and it's targeted at something people actually like.

The bar has been set quite low. This is mainly designed to remove spam sites, PBNs, content theft, and other related websites.

 4. Your website's navigation must be simple.

User should be able to find their way around your site, and Google requires their team to review it, so if they can't navigate, you won't get approval.

Here's what Google recommends for your website:

  An easily accessible menu or navigation bar.

The elements of your menu bar that are properly aligned.

Use easy-to-read text on your bar.

All elements, drop-downs, and links are functional.

Of course, Google does not prescribe the “standard” site design that you see everywhere these days.

If you really want, you can use a sidebar, an inverted sidebar, or even floating footers for navigation, as long as it's clear and useful.

Users, on the other hand, may not like it. Remember that, like most Google policies, this one applies to both the desktop and mobile versions of the site.

 5. Fake Traffic Must Not Be Circulated

This is a major one, perhaps one of the most important AdSense policies, but it's also not something you can test or determine before applying for the programme.

Rather than getting you rejected, it's more likely to get you removed out of the programme later on.

“Clicks on Google ads must be the result of real user interest, It is totally prohibited to use any approach that intentionally creates clicks or impressions on your Google ads.

Frequent manual clicks or impressions, automated click and impression generating tools, and the use of robots or fraudulent software are all examples of prohibited methods.

It is important to note that clicking your own ads for any reason is strictly forbidden.”

Google will analyze your traffic and clicks, and if they discover proof that you are referring fake clicks or impressions to your AdSense ads, you will be immediately banned.


 6. Your content must comply to Google's content guidelines.

The type of content that can be read on a Google-monetized site is relatively limited.

Adult content, pornography, shock content, threats, excessive profanity, hacking content, malware, drug content, weapon sales, and so on are banned on your website.

The majority of the time, “anything vulgar, unlawful, adult, aggressive, bigoted, or damaging” is prohibited. Before you apply, make sure your site complies with all of their criteria.

 7. You Are Not Allowed to Distribute Copyrighted Content

Copyright rule mandates that all content you publish on your site, from images to text to videos, is something you are authorized to use or share.

Your pages should, for example, feature blog posts you wrote yourself, images you made yourself, a logo you paid to have created for you, and other such features.

In contrast, your page should not include information plagiarized from another site, images obtained without a licence to use them from Google image search, or video created by someone else that you present as your own.

You may be able to lawfully use content that you did not create in some cases. It's fine to embed a public social media post or a YouTube video, as long as you're not taking credit for it when you didn't.

To add value, you may also be expected to add surrounding, unique content. Images that you didn't create can be published if you have a licence to do so, such as from a stock photo website.

Because copyright is such a wide and complicated area of the law, it's better to cross the line of caution.


 8. You Must Use a Language That Is Supported

Unfortunately, Google AdSense does not support every language on the planet. They want to make sure that the ads they display are readable by the individuals who are looking at them.

Your website can be bilingual with unsupported language content as long as the majority of the content is in a supported language.

Arabic, Bengali, Bulgarian, Catalan, Chinese (Both simplified and traditional), Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Filipino, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Malay, Marathi, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish (both traditional and Latin American), Swedish, Tamil, Telugu, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Urdu, and Vietnamese etc.

It should be noted that some of those languages are supported for AdSense display ads but not in the AdSense dashboard.

Furthermore, Google may add support for additional languages at any time.

 9. Your website should not provide an abusive experience.

A site with a “abusive experience” is one that engages a predefined set of manipulative, harmful, false, or misleading techniques that Google restricts or bans.

These probably me be :-

▲ Page elements that look like chat apps, system warnings, or other dialogue boxes that the user might want to click on.

Sections of the page that are clickable despite the fact that nothing indicates that they should be.

Deceptive buttons, such as a "next page" arrow that takes you to a landing page instead.

Scripts that manipulate browser history in order to prevent users from using the "back" button.

Any attempt to obtain information through social engineering or phishing.

Elements that make it appear as if the user is clicking in order to trick the user into clicking.

Malware of any kind found on the site.

 Basically, anything that makes a page appear to be able to scam users, steal information, send malware, or otherwise commit fraud is banned.

Google has restricted who can be approved, which has helped to prevent some type of violence on their site.

In special, if a website is less than six months old – for example, if you just launched your website last week – you may have a more tough time getting approval.

If they find website traffic and visitors engagement as well as providing value to site visitors with valueable contents.

This is not always applicable. If you've originally owned successful websites, Google may also allow you to get approved on a brand new domain.

Furthermore, this rule may not apply to the United States and other predominantly English-speaking countries. What's the harm?

A brand new blog will most likely have even less traffic, which means it will make little or no money.

Trying to create new sites, monetize them quickly, and then dump them when they are banned will not provide anyone with enough money to live on in the United States.

On the other hand, in a country like Bangladesh or Pakistan, where the cost of living is much lower, this type of abuse could be far more profitable. As a result, Google has a waiting period for new sites based in such areas.

 10. You Will Need Sufficient Traffic

Although Google may reject a site due to a lack of traffic, this is not always the case.

However, if you don't have enough traffic, you won't be able to earn enough money to cash out. How much traffic do you need to make a decent living? That is a different topic.        

Unofficial AdSense Eligibility Criteria

The last few criteria are not stated anywhere in Google's documentation. They could be the reason your site is rejected when you apply.

Sometimes they could be the reason you were accepted but aren't getting much out of the programme. 

To have the best experience possible, it's a good idea to check these boxes before applying.

 11. You Should Include Technical Pages

Google doesn’t really say this anywhere, but many expert bloggers advice to keep these pages.  

As per them Google AdSense approval much more likely to be rejected from the programme if it doesn’t have technical pages that establish trust in a brand.

Technical pages are the Three Big Pages in this case: the Privacy Policy page, the About Us page, and the Contact Us page.

Now, these do not all have to be separate pages. It's usually a good idea to split the privacy policy into a separate page if it's complicated.

But in some cases, a simple "we don't harvest any information" disclaimer is sufficient. Similarly, an About Us and a Contact page are commonly the same page.

The presence of an About page increases user trust that you are who you claim to be and that your brand has some level of legitimacy.

Similarly, a contact page that includes information such as an address and phone number makes you more trustworthy than a brand that cannot be reached.

 12. Your website should have been up and running for at least six months.

This is another "unwritten" policy that isn't really a policy but can have a large impact on a large number of applicants.

Basically, when AdSense first launched, it was simple to apply and receive approval. Google soon realized they had a problem with tonnes of new, low-quality sites eating up money in massive amounts.

So, they began raising their standards. Almost every rule listed above is something they've encountered and had to restrict.
